Beer Release

Building, Beers, and Booze

Hello there friends,

It’s been a while!  The crew’s been pecking away at all the tasks to be done, but fear not for they are forever snowed with endless tasks to still be done.

Last time we spoke (let’s be honest, you were reading Van’s pontificating rants about a whole lot o’ nothin’!), the crew was excited about the construction underway.  Holy shit were they (the humans) naive.  Allow me (the sentient being that is 595) update you lovely people of what’s been goings ons.

Please take a moment to find yourself a nice frosty beer:

Thanks to Mike Gaddy at Mother Earth for the showing us some love at the BCBF! More pics on that later 😀

If you aren’t drinking while you’re reading this, please unfriend me (the website) from your life (jk).  But to understand the bumbling bureaucratic bull that we get dragged through, you don’t want to be sober.  I mean, be coherent enough to understand what you’re reading, but be about 2-3 beers in by the time you continue reading below. 😆

Updates

In no particular order:Camden is on a sabbatical (from what? we’re not sure) – you guessed it! – climbing big ass rocks!

Captain Camderpants!

  1. Permits are required for every single fucking thing you do.  You want to move this fryer to the other side of the kitchen?  PERMIT!  You want to add some lights to the bar?  PERMIT!  You want to put a second floor on top of the roof and make a dining area to oversee the Vegas strip?  PERMIT!  (okay, that last one is totally made up, but I bet you we’d have to get a permit for that!)  The point is that there’s a bunch of governing authorities to the operation, and they don’t communicate with each other so we have to talk to all of them individually and pull all types of permits to build shit out.  But after Van and Cam sat in on their food safety manager training course, it’s understandable.  I guess the government wants people to not die when they go out for food and drinks.  Something about public safety.
  2. Garage Roll-Up Window Bartop is more complicated than we anticipated.  The garage roll-up manufacturer doesn’t do glass work, and the glass work guy doesn’t build pony walls.  So, we have to bring in 3 separate companies to build the wall, move the storefront glass, and install the roll-up doors.  We’re hoping that everyone plays nice and none of the measurements are off!
  3. FF&E’s in the bar is well under way by 595 buddies at Lark Design Co. in San Diego who will be putting together really cool glycol-chilled bar-top to keep pints cool in the blistering hot desert heat!  You’ll have to see it to truly appreciate (drool) over it!
  4. Beerfests are rampant in this part of the desert.  And why not!  It’s been a gorgeous mid 70’s every day, with amazing clear blue skies surrounded by world class beer drinkers of all walks of life!  Probably one of the coolest venues for a beer fest that we’ve been to at Boulder City:
  5. Website is under development (like we said the last 4 months lol), and we are SUPER stoked about how gorgeous I’ll look by the end of it!  If you don’t know Matt and Jim, they’re the brains behind some of the coolest graphics and websites released in (my) recent memory.  Just look at our sweet logo!

    Be excited, be VERY excited!!

  6. Community support in Las Vegas has been nothing short of phenomenal!!!  In this section, we gets to name drop a couple of the fantastic local businesses that we will be supporting once we open!!!
    1. CraftHaus – Wyndee and Dave have showed us a lot of support in getting off the ground!  Not to mention they’re one of the power couples spearheading progressive change in some of the antiquated legislation holding back Craft breweries from being able to prosper in the desert oasis!  If that wasn’t enough, it turns out that their brewers Steph and Steve brewed with Camden for a short time during their stint in San Diego under their Two Brewers Abroad program!  Two cool bearded bros brewing beers!
    2. Tenaya Creek – We’ve ran into the Anthony and friends at the last couple beerfests we attended, and damn are we excited about supporting their beers!  The Bonanza Brown is our personal flavorite here!
    3. Lovelady – When we first landed in Las Vegas, we were invited out to Lovelady’s Hopnotic IIPA can release party at Khoury’s.  We got to meet Jeff’s mustache first.  Jeff was sitting behind it, getting hopnotized with the good beer nerds of Henderson, and boy was it a fun time!  We’ve ran into Jeff and family at just about every other brewing event we’ve attended since, and his mustache (and their beers) are doing fantastic!
    4. Top Shelf Wine and Spirits – In a serendipitous turn of events, we found out that in our cozy little corner on Tropicana and Rainbow, the fun folks at Top Shelf will be our co-tenants!  So, if you enjoyed a damn tasty pint at our pub, chances are you can stumble into Top Shelf afterwards and take some home!  It’s a thing of beauty, people.  If I could cry, I would.
    5. Distributors – We’ve met some pretty awesome craft beer folk on this side of the operation, and we think between the 8-10 partners that 595 will be working with, you (the customer) will be able to enjoy something new every single time you walk into our soon-to-be-open doors!  24 taps on constant rotation?  You better believe it!

That’s about all we’ve got for now, but as always, thanks for tuning in!  As we tidy up over the next 4-6 weeks and gear up for our opening, we’re constantly reminded of how supportive and genuine community has been out here.  Our current level of excitement:

OH, WE FORGOT TO TELL YOU!  Not sure if this was ever mentioned to you, but this:

YES THAT IS AN EPIC SIZED BISON HEAD!!!!  We are trying to find a place for Harry at the bar, our head of security 😆  And to the right, you have Chris grabbing life by the horns!  (/end cheezy lines)

Alright folks, see you soon!  We hope to have pics of the space to be next time, but right now it looks like 3 jack asses (Van, Chris, Cam) walked into a bar and sledgehammered everything.

Cheers~

Operation Face-Off Complete!

Hello fellow imbibers,

It is I, 595 Craft and Kitchen, now becoming self-aware!  All nonsense aside, holy shit do we have exciting information for you!  Read below for the best 3-5 minute reading of your week:

Updates

  1.  Build out is going well, simple cosmetic changes in the dining room are in planning phase, soon to be handed over to a General Contractor to rebuild.  Who knew that our diners would need cold air blowing at them when it’s 115 degrees outside…
  2. Camden is rock climbing.  He’ll come back to pour some water in the sinks, break some shit around the bar, argue with Van about nonsensical stuff, then go climb more fucking rocks 😆
  3. Companies in LV don’t like making any money.  Pro tip:  When a potential client calls you to give you business, answer the phone quickly!  We has the monies that we wants to gives you.  You takes monies from us for services rendered.
  4. Menu will have *******, **********, ******, ************, and a small list of excellent **********.  All in all, we’ll (hopefully) have around 20 items so that we can take pride in creating rather than giving you 100 items that no one gives a fuck about 🙂
  5. Van’s been drinking pretty much every day on the job.  The boss says it’s cool.

Working Sober

Working while drinking

What’s next?

  1. Fire & Health Inspectors do plan review to make sure the build out is compliant with Uncle Samwich.  We like to have pun while working.
  2. Contractors perform all the work
  3. Temporary liquor licensed (hopefully) issued so we can finally serve beer
  4. Fire & Health inspectors do final walk-through to make sure people won’t die in our restaurant
  5. Van & Camden better start studying for all the certifications that they need to run a bar or else they’re going to be pounding sand once I’m open!
  6. Camden will continue to work with vendors to produce a fantastic selection of craft beer, cocktails, and wines for all you delightful drunkards!
  7. Chris is overseeing the construction with the GC to get our doors open for bidness
  8. Van is working with his good friend Chef Walter to build the menu, then gear up to start staffing the bar and restaurant!
  9. Training period of 2 weeks for staff members to gear us up for opening
  10. BEEEEER PARTTTYYYYYYYYY

On a serious note, the whole team is working their asses off to build something special for everyone in the community.  If you know any of the team members, you know what their vision is and how relentless they will be working to achieve that.  They’re very grateful to have the support of their friends, family, and community, and will keep plugging away to get there!  End serious note.

When the team tidies the kitchen up, you’ll get to see what it looks like to throw down in their humble abode.  Also, they’re expecting to load me up with the draft system any day now, so stay tuned for that as well!  As always, stay tuned for more updates 😀

Bonus for making it through the post:

Cam hard at work as usual.  Thanks Jack for that one!

Cheers,

595 Craft and Kitchen Team <3

Step 1/2 – Done!

Hey you,

Thanks for tuning in to this week’s episode of “WTF is going on in Las Vegas?”

Last week I told you about the bunches of stuffs that the 595 crew was up to, and it seems as though they had a very productive day meeting the village of contractors involved in getting a modest project like this off the ground!

This was Van’s face after learning the scope of work to be done to the restaurant:

Thankfully they have a bunch of all-stars going out there and busting their ass to get it done, so it’s manageable!

Any who, the meetings went well.  It was a great chance to network with the vendors out there and to see what needed to get done.  While the boys were busy pecking away at their tasks, Chris (leader of the boys) had to head over to the city to apply for the booze licenses.  It went as smoothly as you could expect!  And by smoothly, they told him “I know the other adviser told you that this is cool but lol jk, you’re missing some other shit so get it figured out and come back tomorrow butt face!”  They used the term butt face!  Not really tho.

So, he made a trip back out the following day after they got their shit together for the 4th time and the city folk accepted the application!  YAAY!!!  Now it’s only going to take 60-90 god awful days for them to process it.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!  KEEP THEM CROSSED!

“What’s next in the process for the boys?”  Great question, reader! You always know the right things to ask and you’re such a great listener <3

They’re now waiting for the fantastic crew over at Foundry Concept & Design to perform revisions that the crew discussed about and get something workable in front of the contractors.  Then, contractors will provide them estimates to get work done.  While that part is working itself out, they’re working on emptying me (the restaurant) out so that they can perform the demolitions and stuff in order to perform the remodel on me make me look like the sexiest 4 walls you’ll ever see in 4950 South Rainbow Blvd. Ste 100.   (That’s my address, save it so you can check it out when I’m open!)

Next post, we’ll talk about the dream team that’s putting this together!  Here’s a clue:

😆  Gets me every time!  Thanks to Van and Cam’s good buddy Marcos for that one.

As always, check back for the latest dirt on what’s the happy haps.

You’ve done your dutiful reading for the day, go drink a pint!

First Trip!

Hello readers,

Thanks for checking up on my well-being!  What kind of parents gives a 1 month old access to the world like this?  (Chris and Van, that’s who)  Please excuse the lack of Feng Shui-ness that you’re seeing with my website.  The web-developing guru Matt Lee is busy with other kick-ass projects.  We’ll get there soon!

Anywho, while I am busy becoming a sentient being, Chris and Van are planning their first trip to LV to get development underway!  They’ve got a massive agenda ahead of them including:

  • Meet design firm to figure out how I’ll be dressed up for our patrons
  • Meet distribution companies to source ingredients for our mouth-watering menu (you’ll have to check back to see what it’ll look like!) and work on our beverage program of good old fashioned cocktails (hint hint) and the star of the show – magical bubbly, hoppy, floral, juicy, malty, citrusy, roasty, smokey, spicy, sweet, tart, golden, amber, or chocolatey liquids that’s guaranteed to give you a warm fuzzy feeling inside (if it doesn’t, then check your pulse you dead bastard)
  • Meet POS vendor to reliably and accurately collect your contributions 😀 and track all the boring stuff
  • File permits and paperwork with the city! (more on this hot mess of a process in future posts)
  • Meet draft beer systems installer
  • If time permits, they’ll get to go visit the LV Craft Beer community to give them an idea of the bad ass concept underway and start showing love to the local community!

If it looks like a ton of work to do, let me assure you that it is a shitload of work.  And that’s the tip of the iceberg! 😆 They told me to tell you that it’s alright though because they’re working towards something very special!

Next time on:  Keeping up with the 595 Craft and Kitchen,  we show you what our spot looks like before the demo begins!  Also, you’ll get to see Chris doing jazz hands:

Til’ next time peeps! 😎

I’m alive!

Hello world! My name is 595 Craft and Kitchen and for a 1 month old baby, I have to say, my command of the English language is pretty amazing.  If you’ve made your way into this blog, then I want to apologize in advance for the chaos you are stepping into 🙂 My parents, Chris and Van-Alan, are two cool dudes who had the idea of creating a restaurant to support the growing craft beer community in Las Vegas. The goal was simple: to offer locally crafted beers and distilled spirits alongside a modest yet masterfully crafted menu.  Stay tuned for updates on our journey to making this dream a reality!

In the meantime, check out the fantastic design work being done by Van’s buddy, Jim at http://damngoodbrand.com/.  Here’s what my smile looks like!
